MULTISPECIES FUTURES* / Gallery KK, Essen

From September 21 to November 9, 2024 Galerie KK Klaus Kiefer shows my next solo exhibition MULTISPECIES FUTURES*.

In Hartmut Kiewert’s pictorial worlds, the human-animal relationship is no longer characterized by objectification and exploitation, but by empathy, connection and solidarity. The Leipzig painter shows possible future scenarios in which pigs, cows and chickens, freed from fattening facilities and slaughterhouses, conquer parks, streets and living rooms. The animal industry is ruined and humans and non-human animals meet on equal footing. The latter are recognized as subjects of their own lives and are co-creators of a possible socially and climate-just world.

“The position that non-human animals occupy in our cultural imagination is proof for how easy it is to accept the lower status of some beings without even a second thought.”
