NO CARS GO, Klimaschaufenster Erlangen

From April 23 to June 11, 2022 I have a solo show at Klimaschaufenster in Erlangen.

“Animals Crossing – Animals cross the streets, settle on intersections and wander into the green or into the shopping mall. The realistic-looking pictures by Hartmut Kiewert show a utopian world that has left anthropocentrism behind. Here, non-human animals take urban and rural spaces for granted. Sustainability ideas about green, human- and animal-friendly use of urban spaces with alternative ideas about mobility seem to become real. In the background of the painterly, collaged pictorial spaces, however, a dystopian moment becomes visible, which unfolds its ambivalent effect. Confronted with the destruction of buildings and streets, the open question is raised here, which changes are necessary with and after the climate crisis, in order to enable an empathy of connectedness, which includes with humans also all other animals in the right to life and happiness.”

“The position that non-human animals occupy in our cultural imagination is proof for how easy it is to accept the lower status of some beings without even a second thought.”
