ANIMAL UTOPIA, Christel Wagner Galerie, Frankfurt

For the start of the season of the Frankfurt galleries I exhibit from 03 September to 23 October in the Christel Wagner Gallery. I will be present at the exhibition opening on Friday, September 03.

“Since 2008, Kiewert deals with the social human-animal relationship. In his painting, counter-images open up to today’s treatment of other animals, which is characterized by exploitation and displacement. Animal individuals enter the pictorial worlds as agents, as subjects, as relatives of humans, inviting viewers to reconsider the hegemonic relationship to other species, which is characterized by objectification and domination.”

“The position that non-human animals occupy in our cultural imagination is proof for how easy it is to accept the lower status of some beings without even a second thought.”
